Mortal Woman Fancies Louis and Tries to Establish Contact
Many of your peers will brand you a complainer, an eternal
whiner, unwilling to accept your fate and move on with what
most come to terms with, in the blink of an eye. I, for one,
have travelled much too far and worked much too hard, to
escape you. I have read, all of the Chronicles, and although
they have passed for fiction, I have witnessed many a vampire
coven to know they are purely truth. I have risked my life,
knowing fully well that in placing myself near these vampire
covens, I could have my life drained of me in an instant. I
don't believe it's in my destiny to perish so easily but to
encounter you. I have written this letter in the hopes that
it will fall in your hands and you will, in turn, establish
contact with me.
I don't see anything you have said or done to be complaining.
In fact, it is this very attribute that you possess that has
drawn me ever so much closer to you. I believe that you are
the vampire you were destined to be and it is your consolation
that I seek. In both human and vampire society, you have
longed endlessly for substantial information, information that
would enable you to come to terms with your "seemingly"
eternal existence. I could not fathom anymore than you could.
And I believe that I am that human that could establish
contact with you and give you answers, that you so long for
and work hard to attain. You need something tangible and
real, substantial and meaningful. If your search for the
meaning of your existence, as a vampire, is determined as
being a complainer, then I am a complainer as well. I don't
see your search for the meaning of existence, the origin of
your species, and your purpose for living or "dying" as you
would call it, I imagine, is complaining. You show the
beginnings of a growing philosopher. It is that search for
meaning in your life as a vampire that makes you different
than others. This, and this alone, is the reason, Lestat has
chosen you as his companion. You were even sought by Armand.
You are the only vampire that has been sought by so many of
your kind as a companion because you reflect the broken soul
of the vampire, that most would willingly hide.
Because you long for such substantiality, and such tangibility
is reason enough you merit the Dark Gift. It is this very
yearning, this insatiable mental need that has made you
different from others. There are very few, vampires and
humans alike, that possess such intellectual prowess. It is
this very nature in you to search for knowledge that has given
you the stamina to endure immortality. Louis, I yearn for
your companionship and intelligence. Please contact me if you
can. I will not ask for the Dark Gift. I know this would
upset you and you would not give me such a thing even if I
asked it of you. I want to explore the depths of your mind.
I want to unfold to you my story, my humanity and my longing
as a human being.
Please meet me at Prytania Street...at Midnight. I am waiting
for you. If you do not reply, I will go about my way and
continue on. If you respond, please accept my apologies if I
inconvenience you. I hope to see you.
